BURRA wool producers Richard, Jan and Tom Riggs put the runs on the board at Adelaide Oval on Monday, winning the prestigious Elders Supreme Clip of the Sale.
In front of a crowd of more than 100 invited producers and classers, their Murkaby clip - classed by Burra local Chris Reed - outscored 44 other clip of sale weekly winners with 89.5 points out of 100.
Elders SA state wool manager Andrew Pike said the supreme clip, which sold at auction in late April, impressed with its high-tensile staple strength, low mid-point break, absence of overweight bales and high standard of clip preparation and presentation.
The awards were judged from more than 3000 clips marketed through Elders SA in the Adelaide catalogue, with points allocated for excellence of style, evenness of length, general presentation of clip, tensile strength, mid-point break, preparation of skirtings, overweight bales and clarity of classer's specification.
Mr Pike said the aim of the awards was to publicly encourage and recognise the enormous effort taken by Elders' clients and their classers to deliver well-prepared and presented wool clips to the global marketplace.
"Australia's major wool exporters are able to buy from Elders catalogues with the utmost confidence that our client's wools have been professionally prepared and accurately presented to the market," he said.
"The awards regularly highlight and reinforce this fact to these wool buyers."
