Brinkworth buys Frome Downs for $3.8m

SOUTH East grazier Tom Brinkworth continues to expand his holdings in South Australia by purchasing Frome Downs Station, via Yunta, for $3.8 million this week.

The 607,899-hectare property has been owned by the Wilson family since 1943 and can run up to 7000 cattle.

The sale also included a seven bedroom homestead, aircraft hangar/large machinery shed, 13 bores and 19 earth tanks.

Seven interested parties - six graziers and a businessman from SA, New South Wales and Victoria - registered for the auction, which was held last Friday in Brisbane.

Ray White Rural selling agent Bernie Brosnan said the sale was a good result, possibly due to the large size of the holding.

"Despite the good result, it still remains to be seen whether the rural property is out of the woods yet or whether there is a down turn to come," he said.

It is expected the Brinkworths, Australia's second largest sheep graziers, will continue grazing cattle on the property.
