A TILLAGE machine for all seasons is how Meningie, SA, Swan Farm Equipment dealer principal, Bevan Swan, describes the John Shearer Universal cultivator he is offering for sale this week.
"It is a tillage machine steeped in history from the Shearer company, which started making tillage equipment back in 1877 and is today, arguably the oldest manufacturer of farming equipment in Australia," Bevan said.
"The machine we have for sale is a 2002 build, 14m single fold, five row unit with hydraulic tynes, is rigged for single shoot sowing and has a floating hitch.
"The hydraulic, tyne assemblies feature an on-the-go breakout adjustability up to 205kg.
"It is fitted with knock-on knife points and is equipped with finger harrows with double arms, which can easily and quickly be upgraded to presswheels.
The machine, which has an underframe clearance of 800mm, is presently set on 203mm row spacings which, because of the unit's strong and unique frame design, can be adjusted to suit.
Bevan said the fold mechanism also features twin hydraulic rams as against single rams on earlier models.
"The cultivator is a one-owner unit in excellent condition, which has always been shedded out of season," he said.
"It has been well maintained and shows no signs of any bush or pin wear."
"I believe at our asking price of $66,000, it represents a good buy for someone looking to upgrade for the coming seeding program."
