AT THE time of its release in 2001, the Case IH STX 450 equal wheel drive tractor was considered to be the most advanced 4WD tractor available with the industry's highest engine and drawbar horsepower rating.
Today, with a host of upgrades and higher power ratings, the big STX 450 models still command a top place among the high horsepower tractors sought by astute buyers.
The Murray Bridge branch of Ramsey Bros has two STX 450 units on offer this week with another available on the Eyre Peninsula from the company's Cummins branch.
Dealership spokesman Brenton Ramsey said the STX 450s presented a golden opportunity for buyers looking for increased horsepower.
"They are all priced to sell and have many, many hundreds of hours left in them," he said.
"At Murray Bridge, we have a 2006 build model with just 2955 hours on the clock along with a 2003 model which has 3990 hours registered.
"The 2006 model is fitted with 710/70R42 duals all round which we rate at just 10 per cent worn, while the 2003 unit has 620/70R42 duals all round at about 25pc worn.
"Power for both tractors comes from Cummins 15 litre 'full authority' fuel injected engines which monitor and continuously optimise their performance and both drive through 16 speed full power shift transmissions.
"Both are standard drawbar scraper version tractors and both have four remote outlets and are equipped with heavy duty diffs and axles".
Mr Ramsey said both tractors were priced to sell.
"The 2006 model is priced at $225,000, while the slightly older 2003 unit is priced at $181,500, however, we will accept $155,000 for this unit on a no-trade basis, with all prices being GST inclusive.
"The STX 450 on offer at our Cummins branch is similarly described to the two units at Murray Bridge.
"It has 2000 hours on the clock and is being offered at $242,000 including GST.
