IN the face of variable weather conditions and water rationing, the importance of feeding livestock - particularly dairy cows - a year-round balanced diet has seen a sharp rise in the interest in feed mixer cum feed-out carts.
This week's 'machine of the week' is one such mixer, offered by G&J East, Strathalbyn.
A Canadian-made single auger Jay Lor model 445T 10 cubic metre capacity unit, it is described by East's Strathalbyn manager Matthew Keast as a top machine that is ready to work.
The 445T mixer was a 2008 build and a current model in the Jay Lor range.
"Features of the mixer include Jay Lor's patented square-cut auger, side rapid discharge door, patented sloped top, patented mix viewing window, Tungsten Carbide coated knives, a three-point Tronix weighing system, easy-view oil reservoir, and a heavy-duty planetary gearbox," he said.
Jay Lor feed mixers were renowned for their solid construction.
"They feature an all-welded mixing chamber and the 445T unit is mounted on heavy duty axles and fitted with large 15.0/55-17 tyres," he said.
"On the engineering side of the machine it incorporates HD spindles and is equipped with two restrictor blades and protected via shear bolts.
"It has a minimum 52kw requirement and at our asking price of just $45,000 including GST, I expect it to sell quickly," he said.
