Mutooroo Pastoral Company, Cockburn, has topped the Yelta sale for another year, making $141.50 a head for a large pen of young ewes, up $30 on last year's sale.
About 11,000 Merino and crossbred sheep and lambs were yarded at the sale, with stock from Broken Hill, Wentworth, Pooncarie, NSW, and Mildura, Vic.
Celebrating a 60-year milestone, the sale was well attended, particularly by many on-lookers waiting to see what prices would eventuate for young ewes.
Those looking to bulk-buy lower quality ewes on the cheap left empty handed as pen after pen continued to surpass the $100 mark - not seen before at Yelta by many local agents.
Strong sale support was experienced from the Wimmera Valley, where a bit of rain had been experienced lately, while regular buyers from Bordertown, Kaniva and Swan Hill were strong on the crossbred lambs and Merino ewes.
Riverland and Mallee clients were also evident on the cheaper lots, either to put on stubbles or failed crops.
Wethers topped $66, while crossbred lambs made to $77.50.
