THE PIETSCH family, Camden Park, Bordertown, SA, beat strong competition to win the recent Mundulla Prime Lamb Competition, on-hoof and on-hook export sections, coming top overall for the second successive year.
Their June, 2008-drop SAMM-Merino-White Suffolk lambs with a liveweight of 50.7 kilograms, achieved a 47.5 per cent dressing percentage and scored maximum points for fat score-to-specification, weight specification and eye muscle depth to take top honours.
As overall winners they received a $1/kg premium from Bordertown processor Tatiara Meat Company, taking their price to $5.20/kg along with substantial prize money.
Kongal producers Roger and Dianne Carman and Marc Carman and Veronica Marechal, who took out the new trade section on-hoof, continued their winning ways to take the on-hook trade section, becoming runner-up in the overall competition with their Merino-White Suffolk lambs.
Elders Bordertown's livestock manager and one of the event's organisers Kym Lovelock said that as with previous years the judges commented on the good quality of the lambs, and for the second year in a row there was little difference between the on-hoof and on-hook placings.
