PRICES were on par with a past record top of $234 at Mount Pleasant first-cross and Merino off-shears sale on Wednesday last week.
The highest price 1.5-year-old Border Leicester-Merino ewes was just $3 less than first-cross ewes at the Naracoorte sales two weeks earlier.
The 65 Inverbackie-blood sale-toppers were sold by RJ&JA Shephard, Brukunga, to Bruce and Shirley Willison, Kreeside, Birdwood.
The yarding of 12,500 sheep went to buyers from the Mid North, Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland and Yorke Peninsula.
Landmark Fawcett & Anderson Mt Pleasant's Colin Fawcett said prices were very solid throughout the sale, and 1.5yo first-cross ewes sold by Landmark averaged $167.
First-cross breeding ewes sold to $148, av $104 and ewe lambs to $19, av $114.
Merino wethers sold to $75, av $58.
Merino ewes, 1.5yo, sold to $142, av $110.
Merino ewe lambs sold to $82, av $57 and Merino breeding ewes sold to $130, av $90.
Elders Mt Pleasant agent Richard Hentschke said he was very pleased with the quality and price the top pens of first-cross ewes made.
"It was a strong market for all ewes," he said.
"Overall, it was quite a good sale with a good strong crowd of buyers."
