A SON of Wallaloo Park Maximus delivered top value for the owners' Victorian stud at their annual sale last week after fierce bidding to a top of $32,000.
The Poll Merino ram sold to the Ashby family, North Ashrose Merinos, Hallett, with semen shares sold to Ray Schroeder, Gunallo, Murrayville, Victoria; Bert Woolford, Karawatha, Kimba; Will Lynch, Boorana, Woorndoo, Vic; John Clarke, Brookdale, Arthur River, WA; and Stuart Everett, Lone Gum, Crystal Brook. The syndicate was put together by Bill Walker, Classings Ltd, Murray Bridge.
The May 2008-drop ram by the stud's leading semen sire tipped the scales at 123 kilograms with an 18.1 micron fleece and 18.8 co-efficient of variation, 3.4 standard deviation and 99.2 per cent comfort factor.
It sparked spirited bidding with the buying syndicate finally closing the deal at $32,000 - a record for the Carter family's Wallaloo Park Merino and Poll Merino Stud.
In all, the stud cleared 98 of 100 rams for a $2992 average with rams sold to four states and New Zealand.
Other buyers competing at the top end included Will and Sue McDonald, Blenheim, NZ, who bought a son of Charinga Pearler for $13,000 with a 20.6M fleece, 14.6 CV and 3 SD.
