Collinsville tops SA sales with $28,000 Merino

24 Mar, 2009 02:00 PM
The best crowds in 10-years, according to Merino SA president Francis Andrews, and strong interstate interest marked a successful 2009 South Australian Stud Merino Field Days.

But it was the sale of one of the most expensive rams to be sold in South Australia in recent years, a half-share of a Collinsville Merino ram for $28,000 to Western Australians PR&DM Gooding, East Mundulla Merino stud, Lake Grace, that was the highlight over the two days.

White River, Minnipa, also sold a ram for $5000 to Ross Wells, Willandra stud, Jerilderie, New South Wales.

The 11-month-old ram was one of three Poll Merinos that the stud had on display.

It was sired by a Ridgway Advance ram, White River bought at the Classings Classic sale in 2007 for $6500, and out of a Commonwealth 34 daughter.
