AN EXTREMELY feminine and correct ewe gave Debby and Bruce Nulty, Punari, Kingston, their first supreme champion in the Prime South African Meat Merino classes at the Royal Adelaide Show on Wednesday.
First-time judge John Benyon, Uralla, New South Wales, said the winning female was a beautiful animal who would have "swept the floor" at any of the shows he had been to in the past year.
"She had an incredible barrel and spring of rib," he said.
"Both the champion ram and ewe were cracking good sheep."
The 17-month-old embryo transfer ewe weighed 81.5-kilograms, and had 6.5 fat and 36-millimetres of eye muscle.
The Jef-0516-sired ewe, who was out of Punari 0698, earlier won champion ewe against a female shown by Campbell Lawrie, Lawral Park, Ungarra.
Mrs Nulty said she was ecstatic with the win.
Champion ram went to an interstate sire shown by Hurstmead Pastoral Co, Ramco Stud, Darlington Point, New South Wales.
The 12-month-old ram was bred in the purple being sired by CB Lawral Park - who won champion ram at the Prime SAMM feature show two years ago at Adelaide - and was out of Ramco Sugar, a twin ewe who won supreme exhibit at Adelaide.
The 107kg sire had figures of 46EMD and 5.5Cfat.
Mr Benyon said he would have taken any of the rams in the champion line-up home.
