All clear for Glenarbian

10 Oct, 2008 05:00 AM
THE inaugural on-property sale for the Glenarbian White Suffolk and Texel stud was an outstanding success for the young stud's sixth annual ram sale last Friday, moving from its previous sale site at the Millicent Showgrounds to the stud's new, purpose built facility.

A good turnout of mostly repeat buyers saw a total clearance of the 90 White Suffolk rams offered, averaging $679.40, up on last year's average of $555.

ML Limbert & Co, Naracoorte, was once again the successful bidder for the White Suffolk sale topper, paying $1300 for the first ram on offer and finishing with a total of five sires.

Local graziers, JS Stuckey & Co, bought a total of nine White Suffolk Rams to a top of $750, averaging $650 with Richard Kirkland, Furner, buying seven sires for an average of $635.

A total of 16 Texel rams were offered, with eight sold at auction and the remaining eight sold privately after the sale. RH Woodward & Co twice paid top price of $600 and was also volume buyer with a total of 12 rams.

The Texel sale average of $381.25 was down on last year's average of $645.

Barrie Smith, Millicent, also finished with a total of 12 rams – nine White Suffolk at an average of $700 and three Texels averaging $400.
