SOUTH Australia's largest Angus stud, Willalooka Basin, will close a significant chapter in the State's cattle breeding history when it disperses in November.
The sale, disclosed to Stock Journal this week, will include 400 stud cows to be offered over two days at Willalooka Pastoral Company's on-property sale barn at Marcollat.
The dispersal comes just two years after Willalooka Pastoral's owners, the McGregor family, bought 800 stud females privately in The Basin Angus dispersal.
As such, Willalooka Basin's dispersal will give buyers their first chance to select females from the famous Basin herd.
Willalooka Pastoral director Thyne McGregor said the company had decided to exit the stud business and focus on running a "simple, efficient" commercial operation.
Landmark State livestock sales manager Wayne Hall said agents expected inquiry from all states of Australia, with the sale to be interfaced online via AuctionsPlus.
"There has been a very intensive artificial insemination program at Willalooka Basin and progeny from some of the best sires regarded worldwide will be offered for sale," he said.
The remaining 600 stud females will form the basis of the expanded commercial herd at Willalooka, which will continue to breed feeder steers.
