Price rise at the Mount

The was no bad luck at the Mount Gambier Store Cattle sale, despite it being held on Friday March 13, with prices rising across most sections of the sale.

Competition was strong between graziers from the western districts of Victoria and the local Mt Gambier area, with no New South Wales and Queensland buyers.

The yarding of 610 steers sold to a top of $605 twice, with a pen of 12 Angus steers from Havering and 10 Angus steers from GC Parker both making the top price.

Smaller lines of steer calves sold from $250 to $165.

Angus were again popular in the yarding of 430 heifers, with a line of fresh Angus cross heifers from J Pullman selling for $510.

Better heifers made $510-$350, with lighter types $380-$95.

Only a small yarding of 21 cows and calves were sold, with the top pen being a line of four Freisian cross heifers with calves at foot being sold by LD Mulraney for $910.

Overall cows and calves sold from $910-$690.

Three quality Gelbvieh bulls sold by Tom Munro, Taronga Park Gelbvieh, Hynam, made from $1400-$800.
