Overseas interests buy Maryvale sale-topper

09 Feb, 2012 09:00 AM
A CRACKING sale at Kapunda's Maryvale Limousin Stud, last Thursday, featured bulls sold to $12,000.

Owners Barry and Chris Vogt, and their sons Simon and Matt, with Simon's wife Liz and Matt's wife Tess, achieved a long-held goal, selling the top-price bull, Maryvale Federa F67, to overseas interests.

Sired by Maryvale Coconut Rum, the 776-kilogram, black Poll bull, 17 months, was a crowd favourite with his volume, softness, and docility.

He went to Independent Breeding & Marketing Service agent Dick Whale, Wangaratta, Victoria, for clients Top Meadow Farms and Rail Line Farms, Ontario, Canada.

Maryvale has retained 50 per cent semen marketing rights, and the sire will now go into collection for Canada and other potential markets overseas.

Mr Whale said his clients formed a partnership to buy the bull because he had great depth of body, softness and an excellent temperament.

He was also an outcross pedigree to most Canadian genetics.

During the helmsman auction, which was also run alongside AuctionsPlus online bidding, 93 per cent of the 30 bulls offered were sold to four States ? SA, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.

Eight of the 10 females offered were sold at an average of $3812.50.

Mr Vogt said Maryvale's focus on the essential industry traits of red meat yield, docility, and finishing ability resulted in a very solid sale that attracted an excellent mix of new and repeat buyers.

"The strong support at the 2012 sale from leading seedstock and commercial herds is certainly a sale highlight and reinforces the calibre of Maryvale's breeding program," he said.

"The sire of the $12,000 bull, Maryvale Coconut Rum is breeding brilliantly and sired four of the top six weight a day of age bulls in the sale catalogue."

Volume buyer GR&TL Hannigan, Churinga Station, Broken Hill, took four bulls to $4000 av $3375.

Waterbag Station, Broken Hill, bought three.

The second top price sire at $6250 was Maryvale Forum F16 ? an impressive Poll son of TMF Polled Harmonica ? sold to the Modra family, Limek Limousin Stud, Bordertown.

The Modras also took an excellent female Maryvale Daiquiri at $4000.

Volume buyer of females Bill Wearn and partners of the Ganian Limousin Stud, Marsden Park, Sydney, took three outstanding females to $5000 av $4000.

The $5000 female was the mother of the $12,000 sale-topper.
