Lighter steers to $1.90/kg at Strath

THANKS to plenty of paddock feed, particularly in the Adelaide Hills and on Fleurieu Peninsula, buyers competed strongly for the 1000 head at Strathalbyn store sale on Friday.

The yarding was supplied from Port Augusta, Kangaroo Island, the Fleurieu and the Hills. Quality was average, with some KI cattle very light in condition.

Elders agent Darrell Sims said steers sold slightly softer on recent sales, while heifers with cover were $25 easier and light-condition off-types fully firm.

On a liveweight basis, 220-250kg steers were $1.80-$1.90 a kilogram, while the heifers made $1.40-$1.60/kg.
