ONE of South Australia's longest running Murray Grey studs, Arki, at Western Flat, has been further strengthened with the purchase of the complete Windhaven stud.
Earlier this week 85 stud cows, the majority with calves, and a junior sire arrived at their new home in the South East from Warooka.
The purchase more than doubles the size of the 37-year-old stud originally established by Dick and Jill Buick, and now run by their son Geoff and his wife Kate.
Both Arki and Windhaven have enjoyed considerable show ring success and together dominated at the 2006 Royal Adelaide Show in the breed's 40th anniversary, winning five of the eight broad ribbons.
Geoff said the purchase was an excellent opportunity to invest in some top quality Murray Grey cows and would enable them to run about 130 registered females.
Arki's main selling outlets have been at the Wodonga National Show & Sale and paddock sales, but Geoff believed there was an opening for a new SE Murray Grey auction with high profile stud, Willalooka, holding its final sale last month.
They hope to hold an annual on-property sale from March 2011.
