 Reap 'Betta' rewards with sorghum

Reap 'Betta' rewards with sorghum

MARK Caulfield can get his lambs to market earlier after planting Pioneer Seed's Betta Graze.

The Caulfield family, Connewirricoo near Harrow in western Victoria, farms 1800 hectares and plant Betta Graze sorghum to create an extra source of summer feed for their 5000 breeding ewes and Murray Grey calves.

A failed canola crop was the catalyst for brothers Mark, Dean and Bruce to direct drill Betta Graze into their soil.

In 2003, the brothers received two significant downpours of rain that washed out their crops but left them with plenty of subsoil moisture for a summer fodder crop.
