Saltbush success at Arno Bay

13/08/2008 3:30:00 AM
SALTBUSH has increased production and provided extra grazing during low rainfall periods on Gavin Rehn's Arno Bay farm.

A livestock and cropping operator, Gavin has grown saltbush as a pasture for sheep for the past nine years.

The plant has turned high salinity and salt scold-affected areas into productive land where sheep can be grazed allowing the establishment of "feed paddocks" - where crops are sown early in the season for sheep to eat.

"We're trying to get production out of the salt-affected areas and stop salt scold spreading where possible," Gavin said.
