The South Australian Farmers Federation Grains Industry Committee welcomed the acknowledgement by Viterra that the storage and handling charges were very complex and were starting to move towards rectifying this.
"The intention to remove the volume variation charge is recognition that this was an inequitable impost on growers " SAFF Grains chair Michael Schaefer said.
"Unfortunately as yet there is no indication of any repayment that is supposed to happen. How do they propose to make the agreed refund, due in better years? It is now proposed to have a new grain volume insurance program which growers will fund under re-bundled charges. And will this program be included at all ABA sites as well?"
Mr Shaefer said SAFF Grains would continue to monitor on behalf of all South Australian grain growers the promised revised fee structure when more details are available.
"We need to aim for not only a simplified list of charges, but overall lower total charges, that are transparent to the whole industry," he said.
