DAIRY Australia estimates that the opening milk price for the 2009-2010 season will be between 25 and 29 cents a litre, while over a full year prices would average between 29-34c/L, based on 60-70c Australian dollar.
It is the first time the organisation has estimated opening and full year prices, however Dairy Australia chairman Max Roberts warned they were only "baseline figures".
"Different companies and different locations will have different prices around these, but if we look at a baseline price for the export market out of Victoria, this is what we are talking about," he said.
Price maker Murray Goulburn is expected to announce their opening milk price for the season on June 25. It is expected other processor prices will follow.
Speaking at a Rural Media lunch yesterday, Mr Roberts said the estimates had received a great response from the processing companies.

"Nobody disagreed with them too much," he said.
"Being an optimistic dairyfarmer, I would say that these are the low end of the figures and there will be companies that strive to get in the 30c/L region."
