BRIGHT, young and motivated dairy researchers and innovators from across the dairy supply chain will compete for grants of up to $50,000 to further their innovative ideas and careers.
The 2009 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture - coordinated by the Bureau of Rural Sciences, Canberra - are open to Australians aged 18 to 35 who work or study in primary industries.
As in 2008, Dairy Australia is sponsoring the 2009 dairy research award to promote a culture of innovation and encourage young talent in the industry.
"The dairy research award is a great opportunity for young innovators to contribute to the future of our dairy industry and at the same time further their own careers," Dairy Australia (DA) Product Innovation manager Dr Mani Iyer said.
"DA is committed to nurturing young talent to develop capability in the industry and this award provides a fantastic career opportunity for a young researcher.
"The award will also enable the winner to network with the industry and other award winners.
"This is a prestigious award offered at national level which can provide a real career boost for a young innovator."
Young Australians aged 18 to 35 years who work or study in primary industries can apply for the awards by July 3.
Thirteen winners across a range of agricultural, forestry and fisheries industries will receive $20,000 each to explore an emerging scientific issue or innovative activity over a 12 month period.
One winner will receive an additional $30,000 as the recipient of the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's Award, making the premier prize a total of $50,000.
Winners can use their funding for a range of activities including research projects, industry visits or by attending conferences.
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Canberra in September 2009.
