SOARING demand for rural finance advice because of the dry season has led to the appointment of an extra counsellor for the severely-hit Riverland.
Rural Financial Counselling Service South Australia says client numbers across South Australia have lifted by 62 per cent over the past year.
General manager Kay Matthias said she was expecting the demand to continue to grow because of the season drying out.
"So many people said last year that this would be their last throw of the dice," she said.
"The season started off so well but the past couple of weeks, with the hot winds coupled with very little subsoil moisture, it has really fallen over. It doesn't bode well when going to the bank or financier for next year."
