THE Agriculture Bureau of South Australia is the vital link in the chain between farming and science, and has disseminated information to revolutionise the State's farming practices.
A self-education network, the bureau has provided farmers, scientists and policy-makers with a wealth of knowledge and independent advice for 120 years.
Tony Rathjen, who has been involved with the bureau's governing body, the Advisory Board of Agriculture for many years, said the society played an important role in bridging the gap between scientists and farmers.
"The bureau has made a historical contribution to SA agriculture, as it has allowed scientists and farmers to share information and learn from one another," Dr Rathjen said.
The bureau fostered independence and gave farmers the opportunity to have their voices heard by government agencies.
