Governor-General to tour Murray-Darling Basin

2/10/2008 3:30:00 AM
New Governor-General Quentin Bryce is to take in the parched Murray-Darling Basin on her first official tour.

Ms Bryce's 10-day tour starts in the NSW town of Bourke on October 5.

She will visit Broken Hill, the Menindee Lakes and Albury Wodonga, then Mildura, Shepparton and Echuca in Victoria.

Adelaide is on the itinerary, along with the River Murray mouth at Goolwa.

Ms Bryce will stop in Canberra - which is also in the basin and where she has a residence - as well as the NSW town of Deniliquin.

She will see the basin in two stages; the first from October 5-11, and the second from October 20-24.
