Value-adding helps SA firm press ahead

CONSUMER education and value-adding are two of the reasons behind The Olive Grove at McLaren Vale opening its press house to the public.

Originally operating the olive oil press off-site, the company shifted the machinery during last year's harvest.

This year is the first full season with it housed at the grove. TOG, under the Lloyd Brothers Wine and Olive Company banner, has almost 9 hectares of olive trees - kalamata and verdale.

LBWOC general manager Sam Temme says the aim of having the olive oil press house open to the public is to generate consumer awareness of the pressing process and final product.
