Open up water market: alliance

THE STATE'S water supply needs to be opened-up so that the State Government is no longer the monopoly provider, according to Water Industry Alliance chief executive Joe Flynn.

Mr Flynn said New South Wales had passed legislation to allow competition in the water sector, and South Australia should do the same.

He said this would open the industry up to innovations.

If measures such as stormwater harvesting were adopted, they would cost the average householder only an extra $20 a month.
