Boom time for Adelaide Plains

19/08/2008 4:30:00 AM
BOOMING developments and more efficient transport links across the Adelaide Plains will help lower production costs for farmers in the agriculture and horticulture sectors.

Pork producers will witness a massive reduction in transport costs when the $25 million construction of a new pork abattoir is completed at Port Wakefield's Primo Smallgoods.

Primo's human resources manager David Ritchie said a new slaughter floor should be finished by the end of October.

"The new development will mean a lot less freight charges because at the moment pork producers have to take their stock to Murray Bridge for slaughter," he said.

Balco Grain Services, one of Australia's leading processor and exporters of oaten hay and grain products, is expanding its storage and elevator capacity, and has plans to develop on-site storage for farmers.
