Strike at big milk group Murray Goulburn

15/04/2008 2:51:00 PM
Maintenance workers, at all of Murray Goulburn's seven Victorian milk processing sites, have gone on 24-hour strike over dismay at stalled negotiations for a new enterprise bargaining agreement.

Rolling four-hour work stoppages took place last week with Maffra affected on Friday.

Bans on overtime and call-outs were enforced across the state from midnight that night.

The full stopwork began at midnight Sunday and finished 6am this morning.

Negotiations between Murray Goulburn and the Electrical Trades Union and Australian Manufacturers Workers Union had been under way since December, with workers looking for a 5.5pc pay increase.

The co-operative put forward an offer to increase wages by 2.5pc in the first year of the agreement, by 2.7pc in the second and 2.9 cent in the final year.
