Graham and Robbie Radel's Mountain View Brown Swiss Stud from Biggenden, Qld, rewrote the record books on Tuesday when their five-year-old cow, Mountain View Impact 2, became the first Brown Swiss cow in history to be named supreme champion dairy cow at Brisbane Royal Show (the Ekka).
The interbreed dairy judging ring in Brisbane is a long way from the Olympic Games in Beijing, but winning the tri-colour interbreed ribbon was every bit as meaningful as an olympic gold for 30-year-old Robbie.
"It's as good as a gold medal. It's better than a grand final," he said with tears of elation in his eyes.
"I'm ecstatic, absolutely ecstatic. Anyone who breeds dairy cattle and shows them - that's what we all aim for.
"It's just an incredible feeling."
It was an equally proud moment for Robbie's dad Graham, who won the supreme dairy interbreed with Happy Valley Betty 12 at the Ekka in 1983.
The Radels breed both Illawarras and Brown Swiss and can now claim to have won Supreme Ekka Interbreed titles with not only two different cattle, but two different breeds.
The winning cow, Mountain View Impact 2, is by Emerito out of Malanda View Impact.
Earlier, Mountain View Impact 2 was narrowly defeated in the judging of the supreme champion udder award by the Barron family's Brunchilli S Eileen, Ardylbar Jersey Stud, Cambooya. The same cow won the supreme udder and champion cow broad ribbons at the Toowoomba Royal Show earlier this year.
