Will Iemma agree to community safeguards on power sale?

9/05/2008 2:17:00 PM
Leader of The Nationals Andrew Stoner has called on Premier Morris Iemma to declare whether or not he will meet the challenge set for him by the NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalition on his power sale.

The Nationals do not support Mr Iemma's highly controversial proposal to privatise the State's electricity assets in its current form.

"He has not provided sufficient details and has a track record of failing taxpayers when he negotiates with the private sector," Nationals Leader Andrew Stoner said.

The Coalition has put forward a set of safeguards that Mr Stoner says will get the best outcome for taxpayers.

"All week the Premier has refused to detail for the public his plans on power privatisation," Mr Stoner said.

"Morris Iemma's main objective this week has been to meet the demands of the union movement."

According to Mr Stoner, Mr Iemma is now faced with a stark choice.

"He either meets our demands or we will oppose him at every corner," he said.

"At the heart of our calls are guarantees on prices, service levels and jobs, and making sure country towns and cities are protected."

we all know any agreement this goverment has with who ever buys the power industry will not be worth the paper it is written on, that job cuts in rural areas will follow and then rapid price increases with bleating about unforeseen costs and duty to their investors /shareholders.

you only have to look at problems in other states where the power providers were privitised, horror stories of weeks with out power due to a lack of men due to job cuts.
