The Federal Government's grocery website is "stupid'' and will do nothing to bring prices down, Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson says.
The GROCERYchoice website, which offers monthly information about grocery prices by geographic region, was launched this week after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission released the report of its inquiry into grocery prices.
Dr Nelson said today the site was useless to consumers and called on Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to "focus on real issues''.
"It is as stupid as is FuelWatch (the proposed petrol price register),'' he told ABC Radio.
"Telling Australians what the price of baked beans was a month ago and putting it on the internet is not going to do anything to bring the price of groceries down.
"And Mr Rudd needs to focus on the real issues that are worrying Australians every day.''
Dr Nelson is now on a listening tour of London, New York and Washington.
