Rain in the west, cold in the east

Rain in the west, cold in the east

29/07/2008 2:35:00 PM
While rain has been falling in Western Australia's wheat belt, a cold system is bringing icy weather to the eastern states, with a rare dump of snow even falling in Queensland.

According to The Weather Company, cloud is being driven onto the NSW coast by strong, cold southerly winds, bringing scattered showers and widespread frosts.

High cloud spreading over South Australia ahead of a front is not causing rain, while low cloud crossing southwest WA behind the front is bringing light showers.

In WA most regions received at least light rain yesterday, with Bureau of Meteorology figures showing the best falls were in Carnarvon with 11mm, Meekatharra 12mm, Kalgoorlie-Boulder 25mm, Leonora 11mm, Badgingarra 9mm, Bickley 24mm, Gingin 15mm, Bunbury 11mm, Manjimup 11mm, Collie East 16mm, Walpole North 14mm, and Southern Cross 12mm.

In Queensland, the only significant recording was at Applethorpe with 6mm, not far from Stanthorpe - the State's coldest town - where a rare dump of snow fell yesterday afternoon.
