Nationals urge Liberals not to compete in Mark Vaile's seat

1/08/2008 2:16:00 PM
The NSW National Party is openly urging the Liberals to not field a candidate in the by-election for the federal seat of Lyne, vacated by the former Nationals leader Mark Vaile.

The Nationals fear a disruptive campaign if the Coalition partners both contest the by-election, to be held on September 6.

The Liberal Party is due to decide today whether to contest the seat, while the Nationals preselection will be held tomorrow.

The former Port Macquarie mayor Rob Drew is the favoured Nationals candidate.

Port Macquarie state independent, Rob Oakeshott said yesterday he would decide next week if he would stand.

Labor is unlikely to contest the seat.

I would like to comment that as Mr Drew is a "sacked" mayor he is a most unsuitable candidate for the Federal seat of Lyne. Obviously there is now only one way to vote and that is GREEN!!!

There is a large section of the Labor movement that is far more compatable with the philosophy of the Nationals, than any joining of Nats and Libs could provide. I think the majority of people are repulsed by "Greed is good" philosophy.
